10. How to Overcome Diversity Issues in the Workplace?

(Goodluck, 2023)

According to Goodluck, O (2023) There are various reasons why conflicts can occur in the workplace. When members of a group or organization differ from one another in one or more significant ways, diversity exists within the group or organization. The diversity may result from differences in age, gender, race, or other traits.

If disputes at work are not resolved appropriately, they can lead to division, poor output, physical aggression, and an unhealthful atmosphere in general. The degree of conflict dictates the strategy needed to resolve it in the workplace.

Workplace diversity challenges can stem from a variety of circumstances, including jealously, feelings of rejection, a lack of understanding, poor communication, and many more. Any workplace diversity issue that has caught the manager's attention needs to be handled by them. (Goodluck, 2023)

According to MyDisabilityJobs, (2023) Managing diversity presents several difficulties for leaders, including:

-Removing prejudice and preconceptions

- Handling cultural variations

-Promoting inclusive dialogue

-Resolving disagreements and miscommunications

-Equilibrating the demands of the group and the individual

-Addressing privilege and power relations

-Establishing unity and trust among heterogeneous team members

-Encouraging fair chances and professional growth

-Overcoming opposition to change

-Assuring responsibility and tracking advancement.

There are many different approaches that people and organizations can use to address Overcome workplace diversity challenges.

Personal Methods for Resolving Diversity-Related Problems at Work.

 1. Comprehension.

Workers will know how to treat one another better once they acknowledge that people are not all the same. Regardless of difference, everyone must be treated equally. Managers and coworkers must realize that cultural background is one factor that influences people's behavior. Rather than being used as a pretext by coworkers or the organization's management to treat people badly, these distinctions should be acknowledged.(Goodluck, 2023)

2. Tolerance.

This has to do with comprehension as well. Conflicts may be avoided if one is able to accept or even like some of the behaviors that others choose. Many people find that having debates is enjoyable—not because they want to instigate fights, but rather because it helps them get things done. On the other hand, there are those who may take disagreements more seriously, which might result in confrontations. Conflicts will end and be resolved successfully when both parties are more inclined to accept and tolerate one another. (Goodluck, 2023)

3. Communication.

Effective communication is a crucial individual strategy for managing diversity in the workplace. Most people are reluctant to talk honestly about problems that are bothering them at work. Assume, for example, that a younger employee frequently cracks jokes about an elderly coworker's age. The younger colleague may not mean any offense, but the elderly coworker may find the joke offensive. If no one communicates, this joke might turn into a major argument.

Inadequate communication between coworkers is the primary cause of most situations that escalate. As a result, this can catch the interest of other coworkers. An amicable resolution to diversity concerns in the workplace can be achieved by having an open discussion about any misunderstandings that may have occurred. (Goodluck, 2023)

4. Empathy

When a coworker approaches them or acts in a way that makes them uncomfortable, people shouldn't be able to ignore it at work. To be able to operate effectively, they should try to comprehend other people's perspectives. They can provide comfort to someone who is uneasy in a role because they lack experience by giving them confidence boosts and pointing them in directions where they can perhaps be of assistance. (Goodluck, 2023)
